DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 8 (MExN): The BJP today stated that poll related incidents continue to rise in Wokha district. A press note from the media cell of the 37th Tyui A/C BJP unit alleged that at least seven persons were injured and 13 vehicles including three two wheelers belonging to its candidate were damaged.
The BJP further alleged that on Thursday, after the scrutiny of nomination papers, “supporters of NPF” waylaid and overturned two vehicles at Blue Hill, Wokha. It added that the road leading to Nyiro range was completely blocked by the mob.
It further claimed that earlier on Thursday morning, NPF supporters attacked supporters of the BJP candidate. Three persons sustained injuries and three two wheelers were burned down in the attack, the BJP added.
It further alleged that on Wednesday night, supporters of the JD (U) candidate of 37th Tyui A/C attacked the supporters of the BJP candidate at Englan and Yikhum villages. At least four persons suffered injuries and six vehicles and one bus were also destroyed, the BJP maintained.
The BJP informed that the party has lodged a complaint of criminal intimidation, attempt to murder, etc to the District Returning Officer cum District magistrate, Wokha for immediate action.
The Wokha Deputy Commissioner, when contacted, confirmed that violence had taken place in the district, however stated that it was too early to identify the parties involved. “We are taking action,” he added.
