Guwahati/Kohima, March 4: In a significant development, Former Nagaland CM and likely to be the next CM, NDPP Leader Neiphiu Rio declared on Saturday that the much awaited Naga Peace Agreement will be signed on August 10, 2018.
Reportedly the Ex-CM while the post election scenario in Nagaland said that the topmost priority now is the Naga Solution and that the agreement will be signed on August 10. Rio apparently showing that he is in constant touch with the Centre also said that the PM is very concerned about the whole issue and soon the solution will come into being.
The Leader of the NDPP (which managed to gain as many as 17 seats in the Assembly Polls 2018) who is likely to be the next CM of Nagaland also talked about the developmental aspects stressing the fact that the new government will focus also developing infrastructure and railways.
Earlier in August 2015, the Centre had announced that a framework agreement had been reached with the NSCN(IM), one of the primary Naga underground groups in the state which later got expanded covering multiple Naga groups.
Since then the issue has kept Nagaland and its neighbouring states on the boil as the much talked about Agreement is supposed to contain multiple points and agendas crucial not only to the Naga people but also to the people of the neighbouring states.
A demand called ‘Solution before Election’ had recently stemmed and had almost lead to a deadlock like situation with parties refusing to file nominations but later the issue got settled with direct intervention of the Centre. Thus a solution after election is the next in agenda of Naga politics.
PM Narendra Modi had recently announced in Poll speeches in Nagaland that the Naga political issue may be solved in a few months. Rio’s announcement thus bears significance.
