KVC condemns AR raid at Advisor’s house

DIMAPUR, MARCH 15 (MExN): The Kuda Village Council (KVC) today expressed outrage at a raid conducted by the Assam Rifles at the residence of KVC Adviser, Savi Liegise in the wee hours of March 15.

A press note from the KVC Chairman, Achubu Meruno and Secretary, Megovikho Khate informed that the raid was conducted from 3:00am to 3:48am and caused “immense mental trauma to the members of his family especially his daughters (aged 12 and 14), his wife and three sisters.” It informed that the AR had conducted a raid in the same residence in 2015 as well.

“Today’s fruitless dawn raid, barely a fortnight after Assembly election, was carried out by the 32 Assam Rifles column purportedly based at Firing Range, Dimapur, numbering above 30…” the KVC stated, while alleging that the “entire house was overturned, searched and rummaged by the soldiers for what was said as looking for ‘unlicensed weapons’.” Even the bathrooms and kitchen were not spared, it added.

The KVC further said that “the sisters later found two silver rings missing from the bathroom…” “There were two other lady cadres in the column one of whom frisked the wife and the two minor daughters of our leader, which was nothing but sheer humiliation,” it added.

The KVC claimed that its advisor “never owned any illegal weapons nor is known to be associated or involved with any underground factions whatsoever except his relentless battle for communal peace and harmony right upto this day.”

It construed that the raid was “either a politically-motivated scheme or someone’s nefarious design to malign his image as a well-meaning leader of the Naga people.” Terming the raid as “a blot in the atmosphere of prevailing peace in the village in particular and the state in general,” the KVC urged all civil organisations to raise their voice in earnest for immediate revocation of AFSPA, 1958 “which is being abused to harass the public.”
