In a major development, Core Committee of Nagaland Tribal Hohos and Civil Organisations (CCNTHCO) announced its dissolution on Tuesday.
In a statement, CCNTHCO convenor, Theja Therieh, co convenors– Shikuto Zalipu, H.K Zhimomi, David Sangtam and secretaries– Joshua Newmai and Joel Naga said that after a threadbare discussion with the apex tribe hohos and civil society organisations in the presence of political parties and negotiating groups, it was resolved that the committee will be dissolved since all political parties had already violated the January 29 joint declaration which their representatives had signed at Hotel Japfu, Kohima.
According to the statement, the first violation of the solemn undertaking was when the BJP withdrew from the declaration and suspended its state executive member, Kheto Sema, besides becoming the first party to declare that it would contest the elections.
“After this, the floodgates were opened and all political parties started issuing party tickets. The proverbial final nail in the solution before election coffin was hammered in when candidates from various parties started filing nominations while the CCNTHCO meeting was still on with political parties at Hotel Japfu on Tuesday,” the statement added.
CCNTHCO said, under the circumstances, it had no option but to dissolve. However, the February 29 declaration still stands and political parties or candidates violating it will stand accused by history of putting the self before the Naga cause, it cautioned.
While expressing its deep appreciation to Nagaland Joint Christian Forum for having initiated the coming together of all apex tribal hohos and mass-based NGOs to find solution for a common cause, CCNTHCO also thanked the people for having supported its cause.
The statement asserted that while the committee stood dissolved as mandated by tribal hohos and mass-based organisations, its mission was carried forward as India now understood that the aspirations of the Nagas were still burning.
Finally, it is for the Naga people to judge as to who threw the spanner into the works for a way to a Naga solution, the statement concluded.
