ACAUT, Nagaland said it was aghast at the election-related violence, assassination attempts and malpractices that were in direct contravention to the NBCC’s Call for clean elections and the democratic process of the country.
ACAUT chairman, Tia Longchar and member, Simon Kelio expressed shock at the loss of a life at an incident of election related violence at 19th mile, Tuli in Mokokchung district.
They said the “incidence is nothing but utter madness and Nagas ought to be ashamed of it.” ACAUT demanded that administration immediately enforce 144 CRPC in sensitive areas to prevent the reoccurrence of such untoward incidents.
ACAUT also condemned the village councils that had declared village candidates and also the alleged involvement of certain NPGs that were forcing village councils to do so.
ACAUT requested the NPGs to probe such allegations and ensure that none of their cadre members violate the NPGs’ standing “AZHA”. ACAUT also noted that the administration “should have no difficulty to act upon” the village councils that had publicly declared their endorsement of certain candidates.
The duo also urged upon the administration and ECI to deploy more security to villages that had declared “village candidates” so that voters are not “discouraged, threatened or ambushed on the way to the polling station”.
ACAUT reiterated its stand for “Solution before election” but the BJP’s U-turn had compelled Nagas to choose elections which has now brought out the worst in the Nagas. ACAUT appealed to voters to pay heed to their good conscience during the process of the elections.
