With just a day left before the closure of filing of nominations for the Assembly elections in Nagaland, only 22 candidates filed their papers across the state on Tuesday.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nagaland, Abhijit Sinha informed that no candidate from the five districts– Mon, Longleng, Kiphire, Peren and Mokokchung filed their nominations. Sinha reminded all candidates that the last date of nomination is February 7, 2018. Scrutiny of papers will be carried out on February 8 and the last date for withdrawal is February 12.
As per reports, Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) became the first to file his nomination papers Tuesday afternoon from 19 Phek A/C.
In another development, NDPP has allotted its part ticket for the 25-Mongoya A/C to Alemtemshi Jamir, who will also be contesting from 24-Angetyopang A/C. This was in continuation to the first list issued by the party on February 5, NDPP media & communication committee stated in a press note.
Further, Lok Janshakti Party has fielded former NEZCC director, Lipokmar Tzudir to contest from the 21-Tuli A/C in the ensuing elections. Tzudir had recently joined the BJP and resigned to join the LJP.
