Gunfight is on as militants are holed-up inside an under-construction building.
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Monday foiled an attempt by two heavily armed militants to storm it’s camp in Srinagar’s Karan Nagar area on Monday morning.
Two militants carrying backpacks and AK 47 rifles were spotted by a CRPF personnel around 4.30 am as they approached the camp.
The CRPF personnel opened fire and the militants fled from the spot. The building was cordoned off and the militants were cornered in another building located outside the camp. An official said firing was still on and forces were engaged with the militants.
The militants have been spotted inside an under-construction building in Srinagar’s busy market area of Kara Nagar.
A police official said the militants were spotted during the search operation between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. “We cannot provide more information for operational reasons,” said the police officer.
Police sources said there were an exchange for fire between the militants and security forces. The area was being sealed “to disallow the militants to escape from the spot”. The militants opened fire upon the search party when it tried to approach the under-construction building.
Kara Nagar houses many commercial establishments. It has Valley’s premiere hospital, Shri Maharaja Hari Singh hospital, in its vicinity.
